Building on the theme from last year’s Black Youth Conference Day, the young adults of the Be More Academy expanded their opportunities in B’More this summer! What a great time we had and Ottawa showed up big! This was a year long commitment and although not everyone from the Academy was able to travel, they were well represented by the smiling group pictured here.
The Be More Academy returns to Rideau High School’s Drama room (2nd floor) Saturdays starting January 15, 11am – 3pm and happens every Saturday.
The Be More Academy is a youth friendly space established for black youth by black youth to support the growth and development of their leadership capacity, personal development, mentoring and networking skills. The leadership body of the Be More Academy is also‘response-able‘ for the facilitation and organization of the annual Black Youth Conference Day.

The Be More Academy is a youth friendly space established for black youth by black youth to support the growth and development of their leadership capacity, personal development, mentoring and networking skills. The leadership body of the Be More Academy is also ‘response-able‘ for the facilitation and organization of the annual BYCD CHUO Ad – Jesslyn Colley & Sara Musa (held the last Friday and Saturday of February). The work done through the Be More Academy mentoring program strives to provide a greater sense of vision for our community, ourselves and the World.
Through the Be More Academy, youth empower themselves to be their visions for the community and themselves. We would also like to altar the conversation of who black youth are in the community, to create a space of self empowered young people that engage the community in powerful ways through youth lead programs and projects.
